Intramural Sports FAQs
What is Intramural Sports?Intramural Sports is a recreational league that is provided for
students, faculty and staff by Campus Recreation. It is purely for fun! With no
practices (unless your team decides to hold some) you can be rest assured that Intramural Sports
will take no more than an hour and a half out of your day.
What sports are available to play?Sports change every season with new sports added and
some removed. Here is a basic list of sports:
Outdoor: Soccer, Softball, 2 on 2 Volleyball,
Ultimate-Frisbee, Tennis, Basketball,
Flag-Football
Indoor: Dodgeball, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball,
Billiards
If there are sports not listed that you would like to play please contact Campus Recreation
415-447-8496 or email Adam at
awallace@academyart.edu.
Where are the games held? All of the games will be played in San Francisco, buildings,
courts and outdoor areas will be announced when the location is secured.
What will the cost be for me to play Intramural Sports?Yes. The cost will be on a
per team basis, with the exception of individual sports (i.e. Golf, Tennis, Billiards). The
cost of the team will be small on a per person basis and should be divided equally amongst team
members.
Where does that money go?The team dues go towards rental fees for the game space,
officials, equipment, toward further Campus Recreation events and activities.
Where do I find a team?Teams can be made with the people on your friends, fellow floor
residents, building, classes, departments, friends, professors, staff members, anyone who is a part
of AAU can play Intramural Sports.
Where do I sign up?Sign up forms are available in the Campus Recreation office
What do I do if I can’t find a team? There will be a “free agents meeting” announced.
This is where if you are a manager or player you can form or join a team on your own!
Do I need experience in playing these sports before I sign up?Not at all, it is encouraged
to try out new sports that you have never played! Intramural Sports is strictly for fun and
friendly competition! Try all the sports!
Can I play for more than one team? You can play for more than one team, as long as they are
for different leagues. Example: You can be on a basketball team for Men’s “A” League,
and a “Coed” team, but not Men’s “A” and “B” team (“A” & “B” reflect different levels of
competition)
I play for an AAU Varsity Athletic team, am I eligible to play?Yes you are eligible to
play; however during your varsity season, you are not allowed to participate in Intramural
Sports. Example: If you play basketball, you are not allowed to play Intramurals during
the winter seasons. Fall and late spring you are eligible.
Where can I find more information if my questions were not answered here?Contact the
Campus Recreation office at 415-447-8496 or email Adam @ awallace@academyart.edu
