New Students

Simply put, we want your first semester at the Academy of Art University to be the best time of your life. The Academy pays special attention to its new students, making sure that every new student has additional support during his or her first months at the university.

Here is a quick to-do list for you if you are a new student:

  • Contact your department and request a meeting with the Department Director or a Full Time Faculty. Your Academic Department is your home on campus, and you are sure to find that your personal meeting with the Department Director or Full Time Faculty was one of the best experiences your had your first semester.
  • Get to know the Campus Activities and Student Events department (CASE). CASE is your connection to everything that is happening on campus. Click on the CASE link at my.academyart.edu to read all about upcoming campus events, field trips, things to do, and the many student clubs and organizations you can involve yourself in.
  • Contact your Student Advocate and tell him or her all about what’s on your mind. Your student advocate is your personal advisor throughout your first year at the Academy, able to help you with academic issues or with any aspect of your life on campus.   • Check out the resources available at the Academy Resource Center (ARC). You are probably not yet aware that you can receive free, one-on-one tutoring, writing assistance, and virtually any other kind of classroom support you need.  To read more about ARC, go to arc.academyart.edu.
  • Visit the campus library and request a brief tour so you know how to access all of its resources. We know what you’re thinking…..Dewey Decimal system and microfilm, no thank you. But trust us – this is not your typical college library. The Academy’s library – your library – is an artist’s dream. Thousands of art books and an absolutely incredible slide library of thousands of images you can use are at your fingertips. Click here to learn more about the library.
