Recreation Classes - Summer 2009

AM Workouts

Instructor: Andrea Rocha

Andrea will lead you in a challenging AM Core and Cross Training routine to get your day started right! Learn some basic Pilates and yoga exercises and then put them to work in some cardiovascular - or energy system development. May include spin, hills or plyometric exercises.
Dates: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday June 20th - August 5th
Time: 7:30 a.m. START TIME
Where: 620 Sutter street - First floor gym
What to bring: Water, good gym shoes, towel, AAU ID

World Dance

Instructors: Sylvia Hathaway & Angela Delgado

Learn to move to the rhythms of international dance music! The World Dance Grooves workshop fuses a variety of movement styles, including Latin, hip-hop, African, Bhangra and modern dance. Class will begin with an easy floor stretch and strengthening exercises, and will build up to a high-energy dance combination. No previous dance experience is necessary!
What to expect: This is a beginner level class, and we will start out with the basics of movement, rhythm and stretching. Everyone will be dancing by the end of the first class
Dates: June 20 - August 1 (excluding July 4): Saturdays with Sylvia, Mondays with Angela
Time: Saturdays: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (studio will be open by 10:15 a.m.).  Mondays: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Where: 620 Sutter Street, 7th Floor
What to bring: Water, a hand towel if you get sweaty and your AAU ID
What to wear: Comfortable clothes you can move and stretch in, but no shoes in the studio!

Intro to Ballet

Instructor: Brenna O’Hair

Introduction to Ballet is a class which teaches the basics of ballet. The class is geared towards students with no ballet training, but all levels are welcome. The class is designed to help students fine-tune their muscles, develop flexibility, and strengthen coordination. Introduction to Ballet gives your mind a release from other thoughts and can be a great stress reliever.
Dates: Wednesdays, June 15th - August 5th
Time: 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Where: 620 Sutter Street, 7th Floor
What to bring: Water, a hand towel if you get sweaty and your AAU ID
What to wear: Please come in comfortable and simple clothes that allow you to move and stretch with ease. Students can wear sweat pants, leggings, athletic shorts or tights, t-shirts, tank tops, leotards or athletic shirts, ballet slippers, socks or take class in bare feet.

Hatha Yoga

Instructor: Chantelle Ferguson

Basic Beginning Yoga. All levels welcome.
Dates: Wednesdays, June 15th - August 5th
Time: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Where: 620 Sutter Street, 7th Floor
What to bring: Water, a hand towel if you get sweaty, a yoga mat (if you have one) and your AAU ID
What to wear: Please come in comfortable and simple clothes that allow you to move and stretch with ease. Students can wear sweat pants, leggings, athletic shorts or tights, t-shirts, tank tops, leotards or athletic shirts, socks or take class in bare feet.

Delighted Yoga: Vinyasa Flow

Instructor: Abbi Miller

Inspired yoga for all levels. Learn yoga as a way of life, on and off the mat! High energy class mixes music, fun and movement!
Dates: Wednesdays and Fridays, June 15th - August 5th
Time: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. & Saturdays 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Game Night

Instructor: Dan Cooprider

Game night will be organized team and group sports/activities of ALL sorts! Come ready to play with energy and attitude! Could be anything from dodge ball to soccer to basketball and Ultimate Frisbee! All levels are welcome - help us grow our Intramural teams!
Dates: Saturdays
Time: 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Where: 601 Brannan, Rec Sports Field
What to bring: Water, a hand towel if you get sweaty and your AAU ID
What to wear: Good running shoes, comfortable clothing, a sweatshirt or warm cover ups for afterwards.
What to expect: Anything!
